Monumental Midnight Walk

After a 12-year gap and many, many people asking when Clan is going to run this event again – Here It Is! 2025’s Monumental Midnight Walk! Starting at midnight on Saturday 21^st June and finishing when you get back!

As this is a fundraising event, we do ask that you try to raise a minimum sponsorship of £80 in addition to your sign up fee. This will help cover the event costs and also ensure some vital funds are raised on top of that.

You can choose your route:

Route 1 is a 23-miles walk - Leaving from Stromness Pierhead, heading out the Ferry Road, branching off at the Sandwick Junction, on to the A967 to Skaill House, on the B9056 around Quoyloo, down past Orkney Brewery and back on to the A967 turning right. The walkers will then turn on to the Brodgar Road, past the Ring of Brodgar and back onto the main Kirkwall/Stromness Road (A965), up over Howe and back into Stromness on Ferry Road, returning to the Pierhead.

Route 2 is a 14 mile walk and will, again, start from Stromness Pierhead, heading out the Ferry Road, branching off at the Sandwick Junction, on the A967, turning off onto the Lyking Road and onto the Brodgar Road, past the Ring of Brodgar and back onto the main Kirkwall/Stromness road (A965), up over Howe and back into Stromness on the Ferry Road, returning to the Pierhead.

Route 3 is 4.9 miles leaving Stromness Pierhead, heading out the Ferry Road branching off at the Stromness Swimming Pool and up Hillside Road, turning left at the top and left again carrying on up past Scott Renewables, continuing straight along the road, turning left at the junction and down past Brownstown onto the Croval Road onto the Back Road and walk down Guardhouse Park and turn right at the Stromness Golf Course passing the Golf Club on the left. Continuing to the end of the road at the shore, turning left around the Point of Ness past the Campsite. On the main streets of Stromness (Well Park, Ness Road, Alfred Street, Graham Place and Victoria Street), walking past the Stromness Hotel, up John Street onto North End Road taking the 3^rd exit at the roundabout and back on to Ferry Road, returning to the Pier Head.
