Kidical Mass Earlswood & Redhill is back for our 5th ride on Sunday 8th June 2025 and you are invited! Organised by Eco Earlswood and friends, we are asking that riders use this site to reserve their space FOR FREE so we can have an idea of numbers before hand - but everyone is welcome with or without a ticket (as this is a FREE event.)

We're hoping to break our participant record of 380 people AND YOU CAN HELP!

The Details

Date: Sunday 8th June 2025

Time: 10am - 12noon. We aim to start the ride at around 10.20am and the end time is approximate

Location START: Hatchlands Primary School, Law Courts/ Hatchlands Road, Redhill, RH1 6BL

Location END: Hatchlands Primary School, Redhill, RH1 6BL - this ride is a circular route. The PTA will be serving refreshments at Hatchlands Primary School after the ride. Please stay and show your support.

Each Kidical Mass ride will be centred on a school within the Earlswood and Redhill area to help promote safer cycling to the school in the designated location. Our previous rides have been at St Joseph's Primary School, Carrington School, and the Federation of Earlswood schools.

Safety: We kindly ask that all kids are accompanied on the ride by a parent/ carer also on a bike. Any kids cycling the route on bikes must be able to keep up with the group. During the first Earlswood & Redhill ride, we found the group became too easily split by parents walking alongside their kids. On the ride, please cycle together as a family group. The Ride Marshalls will stop traffic, but it is your job to keep your kids safe. We ask all parents/ carers to cycle two abreast with their kids, with kids cycling on the inside, closest to the kerb, away from oncoming traffic.

The Kidical Mass Earlswood & Redhill bike ride is a gentle 5km route. It will be lead by our Ride Leaders, but the pace of the ride will be dictated by the kids. Parents/ carers of young children should ride with their children at the front of the group, so that no-one is left behind. If you also have older kids with you, they should cycle with you too. For those seeking a faster cycling experience, head to the back. The front is for little legs.

The Route: The start and end location is the same, with a gentle 5km route focused around Redhill.

Price: The ride is FREE to attend and run entirely by local volunteers, with Eco Earlswood covering core costs like banners and promotion. If you'd like to support the event, an optional £3 donation helps us keep Kidical Mass running safely and joyfully for everyone. But you are in now way obliged to do this. Feedback from past rides have told us people like the option.

Parking: There is no designated parking at this location. Where possible, riders are encouraged to cycle to the school.

But What is Kidical Mass?

For those of you who don't know, Kidical Mass is a global movement that campaigns for better and safer cycling infrastructure where we live. It's a fun, organised bicycle ride for local people to celebrate cycling and promote safer cycling for children on the roads. It's inclusive and accessible for all abilities. And please note, you don't have to have a kid to take part!

The rides are free of charge and open to all, with designated Ride Marshals acting as safety marshals. Kidical Mass demands improved safe spaces for children to walk, scoot, wheel and cycle in their neighbourhoods - which is something sorely lacking in Earlswood and Redhill.

What Should I Expect at a Kidical Mass ride?

The first Kidical Mass in Earlswood and Redhill took place over the Coronation weekend in May 2023. Around 300 people showed up to campaign for better cycling infrastructure. Tip One: expect lots of people on bikes.

The route has been risk assessed and all Ride Marshalls are briefed to stop cars at key junctions/ roundabouts etc. We have notified the council and the police that the ride is happening, but the roads WILL NOT be closed. There will be other road users, namely drivers. With this in mind, Tip Two: We ask all parents/ carers to cycle two abreast with their kids, with kids cycling on the inside, closest to the kerb, away from oncoming traffic.

Tip Three: We want to make an impact. We want to be seen and heard. We want to create conversation, make people stop and notice and ultimately inspire change. So, expect bubble machines mounted to cross bars, stereos blasting loud music on handlebars, flags-a-flying, whistles and bike bells and more! Fancy dress or wearing bright colours is encouraged.

Anything else?

If you want to make your voice heard and call for change so that people can ride their bikes safely - then this is for you!
