How UK charities can claim Gift Aid on donations with Ticket Tailor

If you’ve ever sponsored someone in a charity sport event, it’s likely you’ve been asked whether or not you want to add Gift Aid to your donation. But what exactly is Gift Aid?

What is Gift Aid?

UK-based charities and community amateur sports clubs (CASCs) can claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated from HMRC through Gift Aid, which can quickly add up and make a huge difference.

It means if you’re a UK taxpayer you can increase the value of your donations by 25% and give even more to the causes you care about. But there’s still a lack of clarity on how organisations can set up Gift Aid – and according to research more than £500m goes unclaimed each year!

We make Gift Aid declaration and reporting simple.

While it’s an easy way to boost voluntary donations, collecting a Gift Aid declaration is not always as straightforward to set-up as it should be. So, we’ve added a new feature to make it as simple as possible for charities selling event tickets online with Ticket Tailor to claim and report on Gift Aid.

Gift Aid can be added to your Ticket Tailor events in three easy steps:

  1. Accept donations using your event page

  2. Collect a Gift Aid declaration via your checkout form

  3. Download a Gift Aid report from your ‘Orders’ page

However, there are some restrictions for events. Only the donation can be eligible for gift aid, and not the price of a ticket. (A ticket is counted as profit).
