Be trend-obsessed

Leveraging the latest viral TikTok challenges, memes, themes, sounds and video formats is one of the most effective ways to gain traction for your videos. These trends are invaluable when it comes to producing impactful content – when you ride the wave of a particular trend successfully, you’ve got a good chance of getting your video in front of a lot of eyes.

The first step here is to closely monitor which trends are big right now (being late to the TikTok trend party isn’t a good look, and could just end up wasting your resources). Following the accounts of ‘TikTok experts’ is the best way to do this – try wavewyld and jera.bean as a starter for ten.

Create high-quality, original content

TikTok has an algorithm that draws on a lot of factors in order to determine which videos to put in front of which users. For example, when each user logs into TikTok, they see a page titled ‘For You’. This page is filled with videos that are curated by TikTok’s algorithm, which chooses videos based on relevancy, popularity, and a range of other factors. One of these other factors is the originality of content – AKA: content that has been created from scratch, and not repurposed in some way.

It’s important not to get confused between trends and repurposed content here. Following a trend is fine (great, actually). This involves creating your own unique video using trending themes, sounds, editing techniques etc.

Repurposing content is where you literally download someone else’s video and post it on your account. This will probably lead to your videos being ‘demoted’.

In a nutshell: posting regular, unique and high quality content means your videos have a great chance of being seen by many and even going viral. Regularly posting unoriginal, poor quality content means your videos have a very poor chance of reaching any new audiences.

Use hashtags smartly

One really simple but important factor to get right when it comes to creating effective TikTok videos are the hashtags you use. Think of these like little signposts for TikTok’s algorithm. When you assign relevant and trending hashtags to your videos, TikTok is able to determine what the contents of your video is, and therefore which kind of audience to show it to. As well as this, hashtags help your videos show up for certain words when actual people search TikTok for specific types of content. Nice.

Tip: Be sure to keep an eye on the specifics of trending hashtags as it’s important to use the exact wording/characters for the best chance at success.

Post regularly

TikTok’s algorithm favours accounts that post original content regularly, as this signifies the account is active and trustworthy. So if you want to make a splash this festive season, make sure to post more than just the one TikTok video to promote your events.

Aim to get videos up at least two or three times a week to help build up a rapport with both your followers and TikTok’s algorithm ‘bots’. And don’t worry – not every video has to be a work of art. Even simple, quick-fire videos help make your account more authoritative, as long as they’re original and offer something of genuine value – like a quick behind the scenes peek at your venue, for example.

Be responsive

Finally, you should aim to be super-responsive to how your videos are performing. For example, if they’re getting lots of comments, you should reply to these regularly. When videos get lots of interaction on them, they’re more likely to get pushed up in people’s feeds (as TikTok can see they’re proving popular). Plus, replying to comments is a great way to show your fans you care about them and are keen to engage with your community.

The comments section 👆on this TikTok video from Pure Land Farm provides the perfect example of what we’re talking about here. See how the creator responds to both positive and negative comments. In doing so, they send a clear message to their followers that they’re keen to have a conversation, and to TikTok: that they’re a highly active, engaged user who creates valuable content on their platform. Bingo!

You can be responsive in other ways on TikTok, too. For example, if you notice that a particular video is doing well in terms of views, likes and shares, it’s a wise move to follow-up quickly with other similar videos. Basically, you want to piggy-back off any traction you get, as the more you post off the wave of a successful video, the more successful subsequent videos are likely to be.

Using TikTok for your festive events – closing thoughts

That’s a wrap! We hope these tips for creating the perfect TikTok videos for your festive events have been useful. In summary – The best way to achieve success on TikTok this festive season is to create original, quality content that taps into the latest TikTok trends. To post videos regularly and utilise the correct hashtags. And to be super-responsive to the performance of your posts. With all that done – we reckon you’re all set to harness the true power of TikTok across this season and beyond. Good luck! 💫
