Nottinghamshire, Nottingham, Summer Wild Food Foraging Course/Walk image

Situated on outskirts of the city of Nottingham, Wollaton Park is a 500-acre paradise of woodland, parkland, grassland and wetland habitats. At its heart is the dramatic Elizabethan Wollaton Hall, now a Natural History Museum, and it is home to herds of free roaming Fallow and Red Deer. 

The park offers an excellent environment to discover and learn bout the wild edible plants and mushrooms growing in the UK. This foraging course is easy to reach from Nottingham, Mansfield, Newark, Sheffield, Doncaster, Lincoln, Leicester, Chesterfield, Worksop, Retford, Grantham, and Derby.

This course is focused on introducing you to edible species of plants and mushrooms, and giving you the skills to find them again in your own area. You'll discover how to identify some commonly growing wild foods, how to avoid poisonous lookalikes, and hints on where to look. When we meet up, we will have a short foraging induction session before heading out to discover the edibles in the area.

The course includes:
- an overview of foraging laws and safety best practice
- exploration of the venue
- introduction to a number of edible species 
- instruction on how to tell edible species apart from poisonous lookalikes
- tips on harvesting
- information on where to find these species again
- recipe ideas
- wild food treats to sample
- digital notes sent after the course

The wild food taster participants will get to try could be soup, pesto, herb rub, vinegar, pickle, jam, jelly, or syrup. All are 100% plant/fungi-based or have a 100% plant/fungi-based alternative.

The exact meeting location and park access details will given two days before the course date.

Participants must be aged 18 or over - sorry, no children under 18 or babes in arms on this course.

Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted on the course.

We cannot guarantee what wild edibles will be growing on our courses, such is the nature of foraging. However, as a rough guide of the seasons, spring is usually predominantly plants and perhaps some mushrooms; summer is usually plants, fruits and perhaps some mushrooms, and autumn is usually predominantly mushrooms with perhaps some plants, fruits and nuts
