Schools rely heavily on IT and online services to function. They also hold large amounts of sensitive personal data on pupils, parents, and staff. All this data needs to be stored securely and this is not just down to the IT department, everyone has their role to play.

According to the Cyber Security Schools Audit  2022 "90% of schools have at least one of the following in place: a cyber security policy, a risk register or a business continuity plan. And a third of schools now have all three"

This is excellent news and a great start, but it is important that schools don't treat cyber as 'just a IT team problem' as all members of a school have a role to play.

By the end of the session delegates will:

  • Understand cyber security threats that the education sector faces
  • Understand the schools' duties around cyber security
  • Know what questions to ask to ensure schools are fulfilling their duties
  • Know of police lead resources to support them and their school(s) improve their defence against common cyber threats

We recommend that you attend our 'Cyber Security and introduction to Cyber Choices - UK School Staff' session before attending this more strategic overview as it will give you a good base knowledge around threats and terminology, which this session will build upon.
