10:00 - What is renewal and why now? LAUNCH of our union maturity model

10:15 - Unions and emerging sectors.  One of the greatest challenges for unions is how they can move into new areas and approach new workers.  With a changing labour market and new places of work, the ability for unions to adapt to reflect the new reality is going to be crucial for union renewal.  To help us navigate this challenge we have asked Public First’s Ed Dorrell to look at worker views on union and collective bargaining.

Agenda and Unions 21’s Vic Barlow has then explored those results and looked at narratives to connect with workers.  Gareth Murphy, Head of Industrial Relations, will explore the reality of unions moving into new private sector and the lesson’s they’ve learnt from reaching out to Games and finance workers.

11.40Building capacity in our union.  Renewal can mean new jobs and news ways of working as a union.  Karma Lord will talk through her experiences of being Head of Innovation for the union, talking us through where the role sits, how to recruit for this team, and the work that she does on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

15.30 Post new deal, what’s next?  Unions in the UK are gearing up for consultation and implementation of aspects of Labour’s New Deal for Working People. What comes after the implementation and what is the relationship between trade union renewal and wider economic growth?
