With a Nod to the Rich History of the Inns and Taverns of York - The Polite Tourist Presents a SUNDAY EVENING Walk in YORK - Time's Up!

At the heart of a local community and with many long-forgotten and some which enchant us still - the pubs of in the ancient City of York have long been an endearing and enduring cameo within this city's social history, and never more so than as the focal point for a sensational inquest!

Our walk will not only reveal the stories of these inquests but will also shine a light on the understanding of death and the ritual of mourning throughout the Victorian era.

For those of a curious and hardy temper – why not come along and listen to The Polite Tourist one SUNDAY evening in YORK as they share with you the tales of those ordinary folk including the story of an impressionable teenager, the rejected bigamist, and the lonely widower.

Hear also of a deadly afternoon of playing cards and the shocking tale of a lady's thirst for ale.

And ALL lost to history – until now!

However, for those of a sensitive nature who are averse to real stories of tears, heartache and tragedy – Time's Up! with The Polite Tourist one SUNDAY evening in YORK may NOT be to your taste.

A True Crime Walk Like No Other...

The Polite Tourist offers true crime walks through Victorian history. Through York, Scarboro', Leeds and beyond.

As dusk beckons, and as The Polite Tourist peels back the long shadows which lurk just out of view – find yourself spirited back to the cruel streets and darkened passageways of a Victorian world and to a place where death was ever present.

And as you walk along the old, unquiet streets and through the dark and crooked labyrinths to a Victorian yesteryear of death and despair, crime, disorder, murder and mayhem – the long forgotten tales of those folk who once claimed these streets as their own will be revealed.

Innovative, meticulously researched and inspired by true crime stories from the Victorian era – our walks are designed to offer an informative and unique experience with a professional and spirited storyteller.

Our coterie of storytellers includes the celebrated Lady Brigante - a sleuth of infamy, wanderer of unquiet graveyards and the bête noire of the long forgotten dead.
