With her anarchic spirit and an interest in exploring what the harp can do, Maria-Christina Harper presents her instrument in new and exciting ways. Combining her traditional music roots with contemporary Western jazz, the trio create shimmering soundscapes and psychedelic sounds in an irresistible sound cosmos. It’s where East meets West.

In 2023, The Harper Trio released their powerful debut album, ‘Passing By’ to huge critical acclaim. Contemplative, graceful and deeply rewarding, it established them as a new voice at the cutting edge of jazz. Completing the trio is drummer Evan Jenkins (Neil Cowley Trio, Nadine Shah) and saxophonist, Josephine Davies (Instrumentalist of The Year, Parliamentary Jazz Awards).

Live, expect a dynamic, engaging performance that is truly magical, or as one critic suggests, one that “explores the breadth of human emotion and touches your spirit” .

“… a refreshing looseness … bittersweet melodies … deep, contemplative, yielding, with lasting spiritual heft.” Mojo ****

“.. .an inspirational experience. …. an undeniable magic …ethereal …truly captivating” UK Vibe ****

“Offers a glimpse of how distinctively Jazz-inflicted exploration of the electric harp might stretch” The Guardian

“skilfully minimal ….full of gentle rewards, that deepen on longer acquaintance... ..would be excellent to hear live” London Jazz News
