Out Of The Darkness is a night soundscape performance, taking place after dark, deep in nature in the Somerset countryside. This is a chance to experience nature in a unique way you will never forget.

You will walk by torchlight into a special place in the Heal Somerset site, take your seats and the performance will begin. First, you will listen out for the real sounds of night-time wildlife and then you will journey into a thrilling soundscape of night creatures, blending the ancestral with the present day in a glorious and unforgettable composition. Nothing quite like this has ever been done before.

Out Of The Darkness is also a provocation, challenging our mute acceptance of a near-silent British countryside and celebrating the power of rewilding to create a new symphony of night sounds.

Buy your tickets now, with all net proceeds going towards our work to help nature recover, fight climate change and improve wellbeing.

To take part in Out Of The Darkness, you need to:

  • be aged 14 and over (14-17 year olds to be accompanied by an adult)
  • feel confident walking in the dark by torchlight over rough ground (a 7-minute walk each way)
  • be at ease with low lighting and being in near-total darkness during the performance area
  • be able to sit on a bench without a backrest during the performance, which lasts approximately 40 minutes

Out Of The Darkness is designed to take place on a dry night when wind speeds are low. A performance will only go ahead on that basis. If the weather is expected to be poor, based on the forecast two days ahead of the performance, we will cancel the performance and we can transfer your booking to another date or refund the cost of the ticket/s.

Location

Heal Somerset is in a very rural location, just outside the village of Witham Friary, which is a few miles from Bruton, Frome, the A303 and the Wiltshire border. Full location details will be sent with the booking confirmation. Plenty of parking is available.

Special ticketing

If you are unwaged, a student or living on a very low income and the cost of attending is prohibitive, please email events@healrewilding.org.uk as we may be able to support your attendance. Please note this may not always be possible.
