Your Instructors:
Dominick San Angelo, TBS Vice President. Dom is not just a learner but also a practitioner in the field of bonsai. He is currently applying his skills in seasonal workshops with Bonsai Author and instructor Michael Hagedorn in Portland, Oregon. His other bonsai learning experiences, such as the Black Pine Workshop with Fred Miyahara, the Juniper Workshop with Vince Owyoung, the Literati Style Workshop with Julian Tsai, and the Blue Atlas Cedar Workshop with Jennifer Price, have equipped him with practical knowledge. He has garnered much of his skills through the Tucson Bonsai Society’s long-time practitioners. He has also taken multiple Permaculture classes from Dan Dorsey at the Sonoran Permaculture Guild, further enhancing his practical skills.
Stephen Ross, TBS President. Stephen has an impressive collection of bonsai comprised of legacy trees, yamadori, and nursery stock that he nurtures. He develops a personal connection to each of his trees, learning about their natural history and how he can meet their needs in his backyard garden. His gentle styling celebrates the natural form of each tree and he is happy to share what he has learned along the way with you.
Mike Pontifex, TBS Board Member. Mike has a broad collection of bonsai ranging from seedlings to legacy trees. He has spent time with Dan Robinson, studied with Tucson Bonsai Society long time mentors, and is a student of Mirai. His passion is development of quality pre bonsai suited to the unique opportunities the Sonoran Desert provides.
