Hone your observational drawing skills and learn important landmarks of the limbs in this 5 week workshop! Formal anatomy will be covered, and students will learn how to deduce proportion and accurate arm and leg anatomy for their figure drawings. Observational drawing techniques like enveloping, crawling and mapping will also be explored in depth. Shadows and light also will be discussed in relation to muscles and other tissues. Students will leave the workshop feeling confident in their understanding and ability to portray arms and legs in two dimensions!

All students are encouraged, and any level of skill set can be improved upon during this workshop. No prior anatomy knowledge or education is required.

  • Basic human anatomy and bone structure

  • Large muscle groups in the arms and legs, and their function

  • The origin and insertion points of muscles, and how they move in space

  • Observational mapping techniques for accurate drawings

Suggested Materials:

  • Large Sketch pad 18” x 24”

  • Smaller sketchbook for notes and small drawings

  • Staedtler Mars Pencil set or Other brand (2H, HB, B, 4B, 6B)

  • Charcoal or Charcoal Pencils (Vine charcoal or any preferred type)

  • Kneadable Erasers

  • Sharpener

  • White vinyl Eraser

  • Ruler (Triangle optional)

  • ***Pair of Drawing Dividers Calipers (Optional)

  • ***Cretacolor Monolith Pencils, (HB - 6B whatever is preferred) (Optional but recommended)

  • ***Artists Masking Tape (optional)

Some anatomy art textbooks will be provided as class resources, but please bring your own if you prefer!
