What will you learn?
Come and join us for this enjoyable and creative hands-on workshop. Using the jewel like qualities of stained glass you will make your own delightful Christmas decorations to hang on a tree or stand in a window.
This is a guided workshop suitable for both beginners and those with some experience and everyone will be working at the same pace during the first day. At each stage in the process Caroline will begin with a practical demonstration so that everyone is clear what they need to do next. On the second day Caroline will be on hand to guide through your chosen projects at your own speed!
So why not join us for some festive fun and me time.
What is Copper Foiling?
Copper foiling also known as the Tiffany Technique involves scoring and shaping coloured glass, which is then wrapped in a self-adhesive copper tape and soldered together creating 2D and 3D objects.
What will I make?
You will have a glorious choice of Christmas designs to work from including trees, stars, angels, robins, penguins, wreath, mistletoe......! all of which are suitable for those with little or no experience.
At the end of the course, you will have learnt many new skills and will take home your very own Christmas Ornaments to be proud of as well as a new skill for life!
Who is your tutor?
Your tutor will be Caroline Lambert. She is a very experienced, enthusiastic, and patient tutor and has taught Stained Glass at Kingshill House and other venues in all its various forms for over 15 years. She divides her time between teaching adults and children and a practicing artist. She has completed a number of public commissions and her work is sold through galleries and shows.
Are there any additional costs?
There is an additional cost of £25 for materials payable in cash to the tutor on the day
What will I need?
Caroline will provide all the tools and equipment you need as well as a good selection of vibrant coloured glass for you to choose from. You will however need to bring your own apron, note book and something to wrap your finished pieces to take them home safely.
Windows in all rooms will be opened to improve circulation so you may want to bring an extra layer of clothing such as a light jumper or cardigan.
Health and safety
Please ensure you wear closed in shoes. Long hair will need to be tied up and please don't wear dangling scarves and jewellery. Safety glasses will be provided.
As we are working with lead-based solder this day is not suitable for pregnant or nursing mothers. If you have a condition that might affect your breathing it is advisable to bring a fume mask (available from DIY centres). Also please be aware that the day will involve periods of standing as well as physical activities such as cutting glass, wrapping the glass neatly with copper tape and handling a soldering iron, so there is a need for good manual dexterity and if you wear them don't forget your glasses!
