What will you learn?
There will be a brief introduction into the Technique of Free-motion Embroidery and Raw Edge Applique where you will be encouraged to have a go and become more confident with the technique itself.
Ruth will then guide you through stitching a festive lantern, you might like to be inspired by Ruth’s designs or choose to create your own. When your Free-Motion Embroidery work is complete you will use this to cover a lantern which can be illuminated with the battery fairy lights.
Who is your tutor?
Ruth mainly works from her Garden Studio, creating one off Textile pieces with Dyed, Painted or Printed cloth, often embellished further with Free-motion or Hand Embroidery. These might include stitched bowls, journal covers, lanterns or lampshades and Framed pieces. Inspiration is drawn from the Landscape, Wild Flowers and the Ocean and the ever changing weather. She has gained a BA (hons) Degree in Textiles and a PGCE in Art and Design currently teaching both Recreational and Accredited City and Guilds Courses. A member of the Society For Embroidered Work.

Are there any additional costs?
There is an additional cost of £12 for materials payable in cash to the tutor on the day. (The materials kit will include backing fabric, applique fabric, embroidery thread, Lantern making kit for 1 lantern and 1 set of fairy lights.)
What will I need?
Please bring your sewing machine which has the capacity to lower the feed dog teeth and a Darning/Free-Motion Embroidery foot.
Please also bring a sewing kit containing an embroidery hoop, scissors and range of threads.
Windows in all rooms will be opened to improve circulation so you may want to bring an extra layer of clothing such as a light jumper or cardigan.
How do I find Kingshill House?
Kingshill House can be found in Kingshill Lane in Dursley, on the road down to the new hospital. The entrance is opposite the Fire Station. The address is: Kingshill House, Kingshill Lane, Dursley, Gloucestershire, GL11 4BZ.
Is there parking?
Kingshill House has a large free car park on site. (spaces not always guaranteed at busy times).
What about refreshments?
We will provide morning and afternoon refreshments and a light lunch. (if you have any dietary requirements please send a mail to email@example.com )

This course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years
What is included in the cost of the workshop?
This workshop cost includes tea and coffee throughout the day and a light lunch.

Kingshill House reserves the right to cancel a course, but if this happens, we will give you as much notice as possible and will always look to reschedule the workshop to a future date.
If we have to reschedule a workshop …
During the COVID 19 crisis we have had to postpone and reschedule workshops for a future date.
Where we have had to re-schedule a workshop due to circumstances beyond our control we will transfer your booking to the new date.
If this date is not convenient, we will be happy to give you a credit note which can be used for a future workshop/class.
Refunds will only be made at our discretion subject to each individuals application.
