Ο Ελληνικός Πολυχώρος, the new centre for community in Downtown Athens is pleased to be opening on the weekend of 25/26 July with our Junior Baking Club special free event for children aged between 5 and 8 years old. Led by Tom from The Greek Kitchen Athens, the best little cooking class in town.

As it's our opening weekend we are running the Junior Baking Club for free and even including a drink, because baking can be thirsty work!

On Saturday we will be making cookies, your child will get a box to take their cookie away in, if it lasts that long.
On Sunday we will be making a mini pizza with a selection of toppings which will also come with a take-away box.

You are welcome to leave your kids with us if they are comfortable however we do ask that a parent or guardian stays with younger children please. We also ask that you drop off and collect your children on time.

Baking is highly beneficial for children because it transforms a kitchen into a hands-on learning lab where science, maths and motor skills come alive. While art fosters open-ended creativity, baking teaches children the value of precision, patience, and following structured steps.

Strengthens hand muscles: Kneading dough, rolling out pastry, and rubbing butter into flour build hand and wrist strength essential for writing.

Improves bilateral coordination: Using one hand to hold a bowl steady while the other hand stirs teaches the brain to coordinate both sides of the body.

Engages all five senses: Smelling vanilla, hearing the mixer, feeling sticky dough, seeing colors change, and tasting the results aids sensory processing.

Practices reading comprehension: Reading a recipe from start to finish forces children to follow multi-step instructions in exact chronological order.

Builds patience: Waiting for dough to rise or cookies to bake teaches delayed gratification in a world accustomed to instant results.

Encourages teamwork: Sharing tasks—like one child pouring while another stirs—teaches collaboration, communication, and taking turns.

Normalizes mistakes: Learning that forgetting baking powder ruins a cake teaches children that mistakes happen, but they can be analyzed and fixed next time.

Junior Baking Club is hosted in English and Greek, all children are welcome. Remember, words are only a part of communicating so we are open to everyone! A written recipe will be provided, if you let us know in advance if you your child speaks a different language then we will do our best to get the recipe in that language for them.

Please let us be aware of any allergies that your child has, we can not guarantee that the workshop is an allergen-free space. If your child requires any special attention we would kindly ask a parent or guardian to stay with them.

Bringing your kids to Junior Baking Club at Ο Ελληνικός Πολυχώρος can only be a good thing! We will give them something to drink and you can, stay with them, take a break, have a coffee or explore Psirri for an hour. Your children will be in excellent hands!
