Join us for another workshop in the Precision series, master classes that focus on the technical creation of custom elements for tailored results.
In this two-day seminar, students will use a half-scale dress form to draft a Victorian bodice pattern using original period methods from an 1886 dressmaking manual. Attendees will create a sample paper pattern (including basque adjustment and a two-piece sleeve) and complete the class with the knowledge and ability to draft a full-sized pattern on their own.
Instruction given covers:
- Taking accurate measurements
- Drafting
- Creating the paper pattern
- Fitting a mockup
- Pattern adjustments
- Using the basic draft to recreate other styles
Class includes pdf handout, supply list, half-scale accessory epatterns (bustle pad, half-scale arm) and bonus material.
Students will create the dress forms prior to class, using the Victorian half-scale dress form epattern ($8 US) from Ninonella**-
Victorian Half-Scale EPattern
Students who have previously made this same Ninonella half-scale form for class may use theirs, a new one is not required. Students must use this pattern for class, rather than a modern half-scale form.
**Costume On has no affiliation with Ninonella. The pattern is ideal for a half-scale 1880s period silhouette, with clear instructions and a how-to Youtube video**

**Why is registration a 2-step process with a separate fee?**
Teachers are paid directly and set their own payment terms, Costume On does not handle any of their money. This allows tranparency and maximum efficiency for customer service, and it keeps things separate for tax purposes. Costume On spends many hours coordinating and prepping, including website design, social media posts, mailing list announcements, Zoom scheduling and endless followup with class rosters/Dropbox materials/customer service to make sure every student is taken care of. I also sit in on every class to moderate and support the instructors to ensure both students and teachers have the best experience possible. The pre-registration fee covers the months of work and the tech costs incurred for Costume On, including any future student assistance after the class is over. Costume On is not a nonprofit, but I price very fairly so that it is mutually beneficial to all.
