Ancient rabbinic texts make use of a surprising variety of sophisticated mathematical concepts. We will explore a few of my favourite examples of this phenomenon. No prior experience studying either mathematics or mishna is required! (English translations will be provided for all Hebrew texts.)

Dr Adina Gamse has a PhD in Mathematics and loves introducing non-mathematicians to the joys of her subject. She moved to Toronto in 2016 for a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto and is currently the Managing Director of Makom: Creative Downtown Judaism. In her free time, she enjoys trampolining and flying trapeze.
