Difference as a Value
Rabbi Sacks z'l, especially in the second half of his writing career, took a vital interest in a fundamental socio-political and religious question - can one embrace particularism (one’s own beliefs and rituals) and still value other faiths and practices? Can one grant dignity to the other, even or especially when their way of thinking, believing and doing is at times diametrically opposed to one’s most cherished understanding of life? Or should one focus on the similarities rather than the differences? We will explore these questions through the prism of a number of Rabbi Sacks’ writings.
