Join us for a dialogue between Dr Elliott Malamet and Dr Tamra Wright, the first in a planned series of conversations about Emmanuel Levinas's talmudic commentaries.

In this session, we will examine closely the ideas of the French philosopher Emmanuel Levinas, and the contemporary Israeli thinker Moshe Halbertal, as to the nature and obligation of forgiveness. Is forgiveness more about making restitution to the other or purifying oneself? Should receiving an apology matter, or is the key simply to communicate the hurt and not worry about the other person's reaction, which is in any event out of one's control? How does granting forgiveness affect liberation? And does God play a role even in the forgiveness we grant one another?
