UK JAZZ PLUS SESSIONS - EFG LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL

A stunning double-bill of artists transcending borders of jazz and singer/songwriter.

JULIA BIEL

Award-winning artist Julia Biel puts it all on show – catch this rare solo performance of vulnerability, strength and an emotional landscape to touch even the hardest of hearts.

Likened by critics around the world to such greats as Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Chet Baker and Miles Davis for her instantly recognisable tones and singular approach to music. For Julia - a songwriter who counts the likes of Bob Dylan, Jamie Cullum and Ben Watt as fans - the song is always king, taking the credit for a globe-trotting career that has seen her performing headline shows at many of the world’s most prestigious venues and jazz festivals.

The solo piano and voice, and classic ‘singer – songwriter’ sound, brings listeners back to the source – just Julia singing at the piano “taking no prisoners” whether over meditative and immersive piano soundscapes or more groove lead songs – a proposition that has in its very existence seemed to offer the gentlest of challenges to cultural stereotypes of music

“Biel’s third solo album confirms her knack for penning smart, intimate songs and delivering them in a voice both crystalline and dreamy… a total delight.”

AMY GADIAGA

Amy Gadiaga (pronounced AH-mee) is a singer, double bassist, composer and dancer born and raised on the outskirts of Paris to Senegalese and Malian parents. She spent her teenage years dancing before seeing music as a possibility for her.

Inspired by artists such as The Jacksons, Stevie Wonder and Betty Carter, she taught herself bass guitar as a teen after saving money to buy one. Aged 18, Amy moved to London, where she is currently based, to pursue conservatoire studies in Jazz Double Bass at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

For years, Amy played and toured as a bassists for other artists until she gathered the courage to pursue her solo career. Now a fast rising star of the London jazz scene, her debut single ‘Everything I Do’ is out now!

UK JAZZ PLUS SESSIONS Theatro Technis @ 26 CROWNDALE 15 – 19 NOV 2022

JAZZ is enjoying a huge renaissance, especially among young home-grown talent. The abundance of jazz courses has created not only an educational foundation for this genre, but a thriving and exciting community amongst its players.

The spirit of this new dawn of Jazz is curated by Martha D Lewis for UK Jazz Plus Sessions in association with Theatro Technis @ 26 Crowndale and EFG London Jazz Festival.

During this 30th Anniversary of the Festival, Theatro Technis @ 26 Crowndale will host four nights of exceptional genre-busting UK JAZZ PLUS SESSIONS.
