Conference programme

  • Registration and breakfast. Sponsored by LEAP.

  • Capturing the Lay Client's Account: Best Foot Forward Panel Discussion with Gemma Chapman, Mark Calway and Kellie Salter, who will explore the key elements of the lay client’s account including strategy, building credibility, chronology, fact-checking and the impact of AI.

  • Public Interest Immunity, Withholding of Information and Application by the Police: a Practical Guide, presented by Matiss Krumins and Grant Keyes.

  • A Talk from Headline Sponsor DNA Legal.

Chaired by Lucy Hendry KC, members of the judiciary including Baker LJ, HHJ Simmonds and HHJ Barlow, together with Vanessa Meachin KC, June Venters KC and Gemma Farrington KC will consider the application of AI in care proceedings. The panel will also debate confidentiality and transparency in the age of social media.

  • Vulnerable parties’ assessments: a panel of experts will discuss how intermediary and communication assessments and psychological assessments complement each other. What is needed in a LOI to provide the best guidance and analysis of the client’s strengths and weaknesses? How are vulnerable parties impacted if they are not supported during proceedings and when does this become unfair?

  • Realistic Applications for Intermediaries: 3PB's Andrew Duncan will consider how the recommendations made in the previous session can be put into practice, including top tips and discussion over resistance to these applications.

  • A Public Law Update with a difference: What are we learning from the latest public law cases, including practical applications for care practitioners, presented by Emma Griffiths and Gemma Chapman.

Our conference will conclude with drinks in the roof top bar.
