Description
This course is recommended for anyone that needs, or needs to renew a 18 hour Workplace First Aid course. Anyone working in a high risk environment, or for a larger Organisation.
First Aid at Work (18h)
This 18 hour, Level 3 course is suitable for anyone working in a higher risk Work environment. It is a blended course, which means there is an online part and also a classroom part. The online part (6 hours) needs to be taken before the classroom part. The classroom part takes place on the dates, above and is from 0900 - 1800hrs each day.
First Aid at Work Requalification (12h)
If your Certificate is in date, you can take the requalification, which is spread over two classroom days. There is no online part required. Proof of existing qualification is required.
Paediatric First Aid
You may optionally add a 12 hour Ofsted / EYFS compliant Paediatric First Aid Certificate

Please note: This course is run in parallel with a Forest School First Aid course and an Outdoor First Aid. The training will cover all syllabuses including, where Booked by others, Paediatric First Aid. A lot of the training scenarios will be outside.
It is certified as a Level 3 Vocational Trade Qualification (VTQ) by ProTrainings, our Trade body.
Topics include: roles & responsibilities, dealing with collapse (with and without breathing), choking, bleeding, shock, major illnesses, torso and limb injuries, environmental effects, heat and cold injuries, using first aid kit, incident management and looking after a casualty for more than 10 minutes.
This course is designed to provide incident management skills. Typical delivery methods are predominantly practical, with elements occurring out of doors in outdoor clothing and on various terrains.
Minimum age for attending is 16, however there may be specific age limits within your workplace. Check before you Book.
Directions: Directions to the venue will be sent by email once Booking is made. Please wear clothing appropriate to the outdoor environment.

Syllabus
All these Learning Outcomes cover both adult (18+) and child (16+) casualties. The actual order may vary during the course itself.
Day 1 (also Emergency First Aid at Work syllabus)
- The role of the first aider including:
- – the importance of preventing cross infection
- – the need for recording incidents and subsequent actions
- – use of available first aid equipment
- Legislation – first aid law including first aider litigation issues
- Assessing any situation to act safely, promptly and effectively in any emergency
- Unconscious casualty management including Epilepsy
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for a non-breathing casualty
- Use of an Automated External Defibrillator
- Choking first aid for a casualty with a blocked airway
- First aid for a casualty that has been injured and is bleeding
- Shock (Hypovolaemic)
- Minor injuries first aid for small cuts, grazes and bruises and small splinters
- Minor burns and scalds
Day 2
- administer first aid to a casualty with:
- injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries;
- chest injuries;
- burns and scalds;
- eye injuries;
- sudden poisoning;
- anaphylactic shock;
- recognise the presence of major illness (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes) and provide appropriate first aid.
