This is a combined 1-day and 2-day Paediatric course. Choose which option is suitable for you:
6-hour Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA)
This 6 hour, Level 3 course is suitable for anyone that does not need the full Ofsted/EYFS compliant Paediatric First Aid qualification (e.g. working with children under 5). For instance, Babysitters, Au-Pairs and Childcare staff that are only required to have the 6-hour qualification.
(Any childcare setting must have at all times someone who holds the full 12 hour Paediatric First Aid qualification. Childminders, and any assistant who might be in sole charge of the children for any period of time, must also hold a full current Paediatric First Aid Certificate). This qualification is not suitable for this. See our 12-hour Paediatric Course, below, instead. This qualification is for everyone else.
12-hour Paediatric First Aid (PFA) - Blended day 2
This 12 hour, Level 3 course is suitable for anyone that need the full Ofsted/EYFS compliant Paediatric First Aid qualification (e.g. working with children under 5).
In addition, any childcare setting must have at all times someone who holds this Paediatric First Aid qualification. Childminders, and any assistant who might be in sole charge of the children for any period of time, must hold a full current Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
This is Day 2 of a 12 hour Blended course. Day 1 is taken online, not in a classroom. You must take the online part before attending the classroom part (we will send you instructions when you Book), but make sure that you have a space reserved on this course first.

Minimum age for attending either course is 14, however there may be specific age limits within your workplace and also you need to be 17 or over to be included in staffing ratios. Check before you Book.
Directions: Directions to the venue will be sent by email once Booking is made.
Accessibility: The venue is on the First floor and there is no lift. We can help with pushchairs but it is inaccessible to wheelchairs.
Refreshments: Instant coffee and tea are provided, snacks and 'posh' coffee may be purchased.
Syllabus
EPFA and PFA
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
- Be able to assess an emergency situation and prioritise what action to take
- Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
- Assist an infant and a child who is experiencing a seizure
- Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally (including agonal breathing)
- Help a baby or child who is choking
- Identify when choking is mild and severe
- Administer first aid to an infant and a child who is choking
- Help a baby or child who is bleeding
- Help a baby or child who is suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss (hypovolaemic shock)
- Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with bites, stings and minor injuries
PFA only
- Help a baby or child who is suffering from anaphylactic shock
- Help a baby or child who has had an electric shock
- Help a baby or child who has burns or scalds
- Help a baby or child who has a suspected fracture
- Help a baby or child with head, neck or back injuries
- Help a baby or child who is suspected of being poisoned
- Help a baby or child with a foreign body in eyes, ears or nose
- Help a baby or child with an eye injury
- Help a baby or child with a bite or sting
- Help a baby or child who is suffering from the effects of extreme heat or cold
- Help a baby or child having: a diabetic emergency; an asthma attack; an allergic reaction; meningitis; and/or febrile convulsions
- Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider (including appropriate contents of a first aid box and the need for recording accidents and incidents)
