Medoc Marathon

On Saturday 5th September, 8,500 people - many in fancy dress - will run 42 kilometres through the most famous addresses in wine in Pauillac, Saint-Julien and Saint-Estèphe. There are roughly 22 wine tasting stops, with foie gras at 20km, entrecôte steak at 39km, and oysters somewhere along the way. With this year’s 1980s theme, the atmosphere will be unlike anything else on the sporting calendar.

This year's edition marks 40 years of the world's most civilised race. The time limit is 6.5 hours, so whilst it’s not about a personal best, if you hear a bell behind you, you should probably put the glass down and get going.

On the Friday evening, expect a dinner at Le Classique, Philippe Etchebest's latest restaurant concept, celebrating the timeless elegance of French cuisine. A convivial dinner to reunite forces before the big day.

Spaces are extremely limited and notoriously difficult to come by, so once you're in, you're in - we'd kindly ask that you only register if you're confident you can make it, as we aren't able to offer refunds or transfer places.

Fundraising is entirely optional, but if you'd like to raise money for a cause along the way, it is warmly encouraged. If you would like some ideas on events or spreading the word within your network, let us know, and we’ll be in touch.

No particular sporting pedigree is required - if you can cover 42 kilometres within roughly 6.5 hours, with the odd glass in hand, you're more than qualified. 

Programme and logistic details

Friday

• 3:00-6:00 pm : Race bib collection at 15 Passage Sarget Bordeaux
• Bibs will be available for collection from Bluenne and Sylvie at 67 Bordeaux office at 15 Passage Sarget. Alternatively, we can bring these to the restaurant if you are joining us for dinner that evening.
• 7:30 pm : Dinner at Le Classique, 3 rue du Pas-Saint-Georges, Bordeaux. 
  Understanding everyone has different pre-race diets and palates, dinner this evening will be pay as you go.

Saturday

• 8:00am to 9:15am : Presentation of participants in costume
• 9:00am : Departure of the Advertising Caravan
• 9:15am : Start-line activities
• 9:30am : Marathon Start
• 9:30am to 11:30am : Quayside activities (entertainment, Basque strength demonstrations)
• 4:00pm : Well deserved Champagne glass with Bordeaux Head Sommelier Giacomo Apolloni

For transport to and from the Marathon from Bordeaux (runners and spectators), there are two options that are recommended:

1. The shuttle bus service takes you directly to the marathon start from two points in Bordeaux.

2. The train from Bordeaux Saint-Jean station to Pauillac and back, which can be booked through the SNCF website. The station is 500m from the start line.
