A Nose for the Details: Quintodecimo with Professor Luigi Moio [non-member]

What makes a wine smell like it does? For Professor Luigi Moio, the answer has occupied more than 30 years of research. A leading authority on wine aroma, Full Professor of Oenology at the University of Naples Federico II and former President of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), Professor Luigi brings a singular perspective to the glass: one grounded as much in science as in the pleasures of drinking it. His book, Il Respiro del Vino (The Breath of Wine), explores the chemistry behind wine’s aromas – proof that there is considerably more going on in your glass than meets the nose.

In 2001, he founded Quintodecimo in Irpinia, Campania, putting that knowledge to work among the region’s indigenous varieties. The estate’s wines are an exercise in precision, giving Falanghina, Fiano, Greco and Aglianico room to express their individual character and the nuances of their origins.

On Thursday 19th November, join Professor Luigi at 67 on Hollywood to discover six wines that offer a closer look at his approach. Well move from the aromatic detail of Via del Campo Falanghina, Exultet Fiano di Avellino and Giallo d’Arles Greco di Tufo to the structure and depth of Terra d’Eclano Aglianico, Grande Cuvée Luigi Moio and Vigna Grande Cerzito Riserva.

Expect a conversation that goes beyond tasting notes, with insight into the science, sites and decisions behind each bottle. No laboratory coat required; an inquisitive nose will do nicely.
