What the vineyards tell us: Alsace according to Dirler-Cadé

Set in the north-eastern corner of France, Alsace’s identity has been shaped both by time and an ever-fluctuating border. The influence of this Germanic heritage on Alsace wine culture extends beyond flute - shaped bottles to varietal labelling and the distinctive embracing of aromatic varieties – most notably Riesling, its most prized variety.

Today, Alsace is appreciated for its strong gastronomic identity, an array of quality producers and an extraordinary diversity of aromatic whites (with, as temperatures rise, increasing attention also being paid to its Pinot Noir). Our latest French masterclass features a producer that exemplifies all this heritage and more.

The Dirler part of Domaine Dirler-Cadé can trace its history back to 1871, with the marriage of fifth-generation Jean Dirler and Ludivine Cadé eventually combining two historic wine-growing families under one winemaking roof. Today, the estate farms 18 hectares biodynamically, over half of which are grand cru vineyards. The wines run the gamut of Alsatian varieties, including Sylvaner, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer, with the single - vineyard Rieslings the estate’s flagships via a range named after the four elements, according to the nature and individual terroir of each site.

We invite Members to explore this region through the Dirler-Cadé lens in this regionally focused masterclass, hosted by the sixth generation of the Dirler-Cadé family and winemaker, Luc Dirler.

Cancellations made within four days of the event are unfortunately not eligible for a refund. In the event the cancelled ticket can be reallocated/ reissued to waitlisted Member, a refund may be issued at the Club’s discretion.

• The Club reserves the right to postpone or cancel an event due to insufficient attendance, forces of nature, accidents or emergencies. In such cases, we will either refund the full cost of the course or arrange an alternative date.
• If any substitutions become necessary, we will ensure the value and quality of the replacements are equivalent.
• All Members and guests are required to maintain an appropriate standard of dress. As a rule of thumb, smart casual dress code applies, unless otherwise specified by the event.
• The legal drinking age is 18 years old in accordance with the Victorian law.

Ticketing

• Tickets may only be purchased by Members of 67 Pall Mall and Members should be present at the event. Members are welcome to bring non-members

• On the rare occasions when the speakers become unavailable, we will endeavour to reschedule the event. However, if there is less than 72 hours' notice, we will in most cases proceed as planned.
