Wine lovers tend to think of Piedmont as the home of Barolo, Barbaresco and their powerful, long-lived reds. But there is another, more restrained side to this northern Italian enclave…

And nowhere is it more vividly showcased than in the Alpine- (rather than Mediterranean-) influenced wines of Gattinara. A DOC since 1967, and upgraded to DOCG in 1990, Gattinara is one of northern Italy’s most distinctive red wines. Like Barolo and Barbareso, it is built primarily from Nebbiolo, but grown at the foothills of the Alps in northern Piedmont, and delivering a lighter, leaner, more savoury-toned rendering of the variety.

Gattinara is the only Piedmont region where Nebbiolo is grown on volcanic soil, the high mineral content of which yields wines with pronounced acidity, lifted aromatics and a certain linear tension and freshness. The cooler climate also leads to more restrained alcohol levels than many southern Piedmont Nebbiolos, marrying the variety’s signature perfume and longevity with cooler, mineral-laced tones.

Among the prime exponents of Gattinara is Travaglini, which was founded in the region in the 1920s. Today it is led by the fifth generation of the family, which includes Alessia Travaglini, who we are delighted to welcome to the Club for a four-course paired dinner specifically designed to showcase Gattinara’s charms.

Having previously worked as a sommelier in Milan’s restaurant scene, today Alessia oversees the winery’s international markets, promoting the identity and heritage of her family’s wines, and helping to share their story with a wider audience. We invite you to join her to hear that story firsthand…

  • The Club reserves the right to postpone or cancel an event due to insufficient attendance, forces of nature, accidents or emergencies. In such cases, we will either refund the full cost of the course, or arrange an alternative date.
  • If any substitutions become necessary, we will ensure the value and quality of replacement are equivalent.
  • All Members and guests are required to maintain an appropriate standard of dress in the Club at all times. As a rule of thumb, smart casual dress code applies, unless otherwise specified by the event.
  • The legal drinking age is 18 years old in accordance with the Singapore law.
  • Club policy applies.

Ticketing

  • Tickets may only be purchased by Members of 67 Pall Mall and Members should be present at the event. Members are welcome to bring non-members.
  • Please note that this event is arranged in a communal seating style, and seat allocation is subjected to Club's discretion.
  • Bookings are confirmed once payment is received. At this point, refunds are not possible. However, the place may be transferred to another Member.

Other Notes

  • On the rare occasions when the speakers become unavailable, we will endeavour to reschedule the event. However, if there is less than 72 hours notice, we will in most cases proceed as planned.
  • The event shall provide the aforementioned dinner menu. There will be no menu substitutions for this event.
