Wine-pairing with the Food of Asia - A wine paired lunch at Lee Ho Fook Sydney

Sat 14 Nov 2026 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM Lee Ho Fook Sydney, Level 1/ 203 Castlereagh Street, Sydney

A special lunch focusing on the subtleties and complexities of matching wine with Chinese cuisine with Andrea Pritzker MW and Alexander Jacques.

In his time as Head of Wine for 67 Pall Mall Asia, Richard Hemming MW dedicated two years of research to finding the perfect wines to pair with some of the world's most notoriously complex cuisine.

The resultant book – Wine & The Food of Asia – goes beyond the tired tropes of Riesling and Gewürztraminer to bring together more than 400 wines from nearly 100 grape varieties across 20 countries, paired against 80 classic Asian recipes. It is a rigorous body of work that Jeannie Cho Lee MW praised as ‘much-needed’ – though as Richard himself wrote, ultimately, food-and-wine matching is about the pursuit of pleasure, rather than dogma.

With that in mind, we invite you to join 67 Pall Mall Sydney's Head of Wine Operations, Alexander Jacques, and Master of Wine Andrea Pritzker, for a convivial lunch at the renowned Chinese restaurant Lee Ho Fook at which we’ll explore – in relaxed fashion – some of these matches.

Based in Sydney since 2003, Andrea’s career has encompassed roles as head of auctions and content for Langton's Fine Wines and wine buyer for Qantas Wine. Currently she is the director of Wine inTuition, a wine education and corporate events business and is also an in-demand corporate speaker, international judge, writer and consultant.

Master Sommelier candidate and domestic wine judge Alex, meanwhile, has managed some of the world's most celebrated dining rooms and wine programmes, from Quay and Bennelong to Geranium in Copenhagen, a restaurant which was crowned the best in the world in 2022.

Lee Ho Fook is the vision of chef Victor Liong, and first opened in Melbourne in 2013, to great acclaim. That same cooking style – a blend of Chinese tradition, personal memory and Australian ingredients – has since been brought to Sydney.

Across five courses, guests will be able to test out Richard's philosophy as presented through the lens of Victor, Andrea and Alex, with each dish thoughtfully matched to wines that capture the spirit of bold, diverse and often challenging Asian flavours.

We look forward to seeing you there.
