Few Bordeaux producers have undergone quite such a striking renewal over the last 15 years as Château Beauséjour.
Perched on the limestone heights of Saint-Émilion, for decades Beauséjour was regarded as a property whose greatness appeared intermittently, with critics
admiring the vineyard more than the wine.

That all started to change in the late 2000s, when consultants Nicolas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt were brought on board to sharpen precision in both vineyard and cellar. While the results became increasingly apparent through the latter part of the 2010s, the decisive transformation has come under the dynamic Joséphine Duffau-Lagarrosse, who emerged as the defining figure of the estate’s new era in 2021.

While in the past, the estate’s profound terroir could be obscured by stylistic excess, Joséphine has pushed the wines toward aromatic transparency, greater mineral delineation and a more explicit expression of St-Emilion’s limestone plateau. Cabernet Franc now plays a far more important role in the blend, in some vintages exceeding 30%, while extraction has become gentler and parcel-by-parcel vinification has dramatically increased precision. Critics have hailed recent vintages for harnessing more lift, salinity and chalk-driven tension than earlier incarnations.

We are thrilled to welcome Josephine to the Club for a special dinner over which she will outline why she is such a believer in the estate’s terroir, while showcasing five wines that demonstrate its identity, including the vaunted 2005 vintage.
