Wine & Dine with Champagne Lanson, with wines back to 1976
Friday 7th August

Champagne Lanson occupies a distinctive position among the region’s grandes marques: historically significant yet stylistically idiosyncratic.
Founded in 1760 in Reims by François Delamotte, and later shaped by Jean-Baptiste Lanson, the house is among the oldest in the region. Throughout its illustrious history, it has remained wedded to a traditional approach, most notably the avoidance of malolactic fermentation in its wines. This technique - common to most of the big houses – softens acidity and lends extra richness and texture to Champagne. By shunning it, Lanson seeks to accentuate tension, zestiness and, crucially, ageability.

In recent years, the house, which boasts one of the largest and most extensive cellars in all Champagne, has undertaken a huge restoration project, analysing the 200,000 bottles in its collection back to the 1904 vintage. With each bottle now as close to guaranteed as possible in terms of provenance and condition, Lanson is making the collection available to collectors.

We are delighted to welcome the house’s European export manager Edouard De Boissieu to host a very special dinner at the Club, during which we will dip into the Lanson cellar reserves. In particular, Members will be able to compare and contrast the pronounced citrus minerality of the NV Black Création and Blanc de Blancs with the creamy, honeyed maturity of two older vintages, including the 1976, along with
several other cuvées in between.

We look forward to welcoming you to what should be a very special evening.
