Adam Elbaum // Heartfelt Deceptions (1/2 & 3)
January 2nd - 3rd @ 7:15pm & 9:30pm
Direct from Philadelphia, PA
Adam Elbaum would like to apologize in advance for fooling the ever-loving shit out of you. Some people get upset. Some people scream. But even the people who get real mad when his tricks fool them over and over again, by the end of the show, they can't help liking the guy.
Dedicated family man, entrepreneur and philanthropist—warm smile, quick with a joke. He's the kind of guy you'd love to drink a beer or smoke a blunt with. He also happens to be one of the most diabolical magicians on earth.
Elbaum's methods are brilliant and original, coveted by fellow performers and often the result of years of experimentation and refinement. The results of his hard work are tricks that are direct, visual and baffling.
Though his focus is on creating magic that is disturbingly impossible, Adam is a kind and gracious performer. He was recently recognized as best in the city by Philadelphia Magazine for his show, "An Inexplicable Evening." The concept is lovely: he invites twenty strangers into his home, serves them cocktails and cheese, then performs for an hour at his dining room table. All of the proceeds are donated to charity. The guy is a mensch.
Try to remember that when he's fooling you so badly it hurts your head. The pain is a necessary step in the journey to reach that rare and precious land where all possible explanations disappear entirely and all that is left is that electric, ineffable space of pure astonishment. Adam Elbaum can take you there and you couldn't ask for a more generous guide.
