Have you ever been so amazed that all you can do is laugh? That feeling is a reminder not to take life too seriously. Shaking your head, giggling with wonder—that’s the feeling you get when you watch Luis Otero perform magic.

Otero hails from Venezuela where he founded the Escuela Cartomágica de Caracas. He moved to Spain to collaborate with masters like Dani DaOrtiz, who has called Otero, “undoubtedly, one of the great figures of Latin American magic.”

But our first encounter with Luis was at a mathematics conference at the University of Maryland. His lecture earlier that day confirmed his reputation as a brilliant theorist and inventor. But that night, on stage in front of a thousand people at the Clarice Theater, Luis Otero unleashed the fun with such infectious passion, the only thing that could stop the audience roaring with laughter was the sudden gasp of astonishment at the climax of his first trick.

Imagine the sleight-of-hand techniques of Juan Tamariz combined with the mischievous, chaotic on-stage energy of David Williamson. The result is hilarious and sensational card magic that could only be created by a man with the mind of a mathematician and the heart of a clown.

In Venezuela, they have mastered the art of chalequeo—playful, lighthearted teasing, and banter among friends. Luis Otero brings that spirit of contagious fun to the stage. And when the audience and the magician decide to play all together, the result is a night full of passion, humor and unforgettable magic.

Magia Chévere will be Luis Otero's debut performance in New York City. All shows presented in English.
