Tobias Dostal // Light and Shadow (12/9-12)

December 9th - 12th @ 7:15pm & 9:30pm

Every so often, a magician comes along who creates illusions so unorthodox that they feel truly innovative to even the most experienced practitioners of sleight of hand. Tobias Dostal does magic that not only fools his fellow magicians, it rekindles their love for the purest fantasy of magic—a feeling most of us haven't experienced since we were little kids.

Tobias is a visual artist, an inventor, a talented mime and a gregarious performer. His magic is surreal. Objects melt and teleport. Shadows come to life. He draws inspiration from the pioneering filmmaker Georges Méliès and much of the magic that he performs looks like cinematic special effects. You simply can't believe your eyes.

During his visit to Brooklyn last spring, Tobias shared a small piece of a larger show that he has been developing from his studio in Berlin. Now, we are proud to present the U.S. debut of Light and Shadow, an hour-long performance of original, thought-provoking, gobsmackingly visual magic. This is a show that expands the realm of sleight of hand to include puppetry, sculpture and filmmaking. Across all of these mediums, with a big smile on his face, Tobias Dostal inspires wonder.
