Guy Hollingworth // Inevitable (12/16-26)

December 16th - 25th @ 7:15pm & 9:30pm

Hip, hip and huzzah, Guy Hollingworth returns to 69 Atlantic! Elegant, eloquent, dapper and droll, Guy is a sophisticated British gentleman with leading man looks and a delicious secret identity. During the day, Mr. Hollingworth is a successful barrister—a lawyer, an upper-crust, powdered-wig-wearing officer of the King’s Court. But at night, Guy Hollingworth is one of the finest practitioners and innovative creators of sleight of hand in the modern era.

America first discovered Guy Hollingworth on NBC's World's Greatest Magic where he performed a trick so impossible it created a sensation among magicians. Even the cognoscenti were bamboozled. Soon after, Guy published a limited-edition book of his original material which quickly became a classic in the literature of card magic. Not only is the book full of brilliant ideas, Guy drew all of the beautiful illustrations himself.

In the years since, Guy has traveled the world, teaching, refining and performing his signature Victorian-style magic for spellbound crowds. His most recent one-man show, The Expert at the Card Table, was directed by Neil Patrick Harris and received rave reviews across the U.S. and U.K. Here in Brooklyn, Guy will be performing a brand new show designed specifically for our intimate 26-seat venue.

Inspired by the history of magic and an idea borrowed from great storytellers throughout the ages, Guy Hollingworth will explore the delicate balance of "inevitable surprise," that magical contradiction that makes a tale worth telling or a trick most satisfying. But how can a conclusion be unexpected when we know it's coming? Mr. Hollingworth has carefully studied this elemental narrative paradox for years, and for the first time, he will present his fascinating discoveries through an altogether fascinating programme.

Inevitable blurs the lines between demonstration, discussion and deception. The assembled audience will be invited to participate directly—to make choices, follow ideas and watch patterns slowly emerge from the shadows. By the end, what remains will not be a trick but rather, a timeless truth: some surprises feel impossible only until you understand they simply had to happen.

Seating is limited to 26.
