Engagement Strategies Toward Ending Workplace Sexual Harassment

Fri 16 Jun 2023 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM MDT

Online, Zoom

Description

This three-hour, interactive, online learning opportunity is not your average anti-harassment training.

Research informed and using best practices for adult online learning, this workshop will explore:

  • what sexual harassment is (and isn't)
  • what it costs us, interpersonally and collectively, and,
  • how to help stop sexual harassment as someone who:
    • witnesses someone sexually harassing others,
    • is told about someone else's sexual harassment,
    • is told they have done something that might amount to sexual harassment, and,
    • is in a position of leadership and responsible for a safe and healthy workplace.

Facilitator

Dr. Kiara Mikita is a creative and playful educator and researcher, currently working in a role split between the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine and Alberta Health Services as their exclusive Sexual Violence Educator.

Kiara’s formal educational background includes a postdoctoral fellowship focused on the scholarship of teaching and learning, and a doctorate that explores how people make sense of sexual violence.

Kiara has worked with the Association of Alberta Sexual Assault Services (AASAS) for over 10 years, and has done sexual violence-oriented educational consultant and instructional design work with urban and rural sexual assault centres in Alberta.

Woven throughout Kiara’s approach to sexual violence education are her interests in equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility; fostering transdisciplinary collaboration among professionals working in sexual violence; and developing innovative educational tools and creative engagement strategies for use in online and in-person learning spaces.
