The event on Thursday 9th October was cancelled due to illness - this has been rescheduled to Wednesday, 22nd October.

Biographer Sharon Wright, who worked with Abney Park Trust to commemorate overlooked female pioneer of early flight Margaret Graham, reveals how she then had the misspelled memorial to Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë corrected in Poets’ Corner, Westminster Abbey - and unearthed the truth about the 85-year-old error.

She shares the surprising story of the detective work that made headlines around the world when researching new book Let Me In: The Brontës in Bricks and Mortar, co-authored with Ann Dinsdale. Sharon says: "Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë wrote radical novels that shocked 1840s Britain. It matters that London respects these women's world-famous names."

This event is part of Abney Park Trust's 2025 "Radical Writers" festival. The festival explores the works of writers inspired by Abney's and Hackney's diverse history of radical thought and action. We’ll be joined by scribes from across an array of genres, disciplines and backgrounds. And we’ll be thinking about radicalism in many senses – old, new, cultural, political, social and beyond. To see the full line-up and book tickets for other events, visit abneypark.org/radicalwriters.

Special thanks to our sponsor, local butcher and deli Meat N16, for their generous support of the festival.
