Fiddles, Fairies & Folklore: An Audience with Allan Henderson

As part of the Scottish International Storytelling Festival’s Go Local programme, join us for an autumn evening of fiddles, fairies and folklore in Abriachan Hall with renowned Highland musician and brilliant storyteller Allan Henderson.

As Samhainn approaches and the veil between this world and the Otherworld is said to grow thin, Allan will lead us into the supernatural world of the Highlands through traditional fiddle tunes and the tales carried alongside them. Expect stories of the Daoine Sìth, the fairy folk, alongside strange happenings, old beliefs and encounters with the unseen, as well as local lore from the Abriachan landscape itself. And, of course, there will be fiddle music – including tunes said to have been learned from the fairies themselves!

Teas and home baking will be waiting when the doors open, so come early, get settled in and join us for a very special autumn evening.

Originally from Mallaig and now living in South Uist, Allan has deep roots in Highland and Gaelic musical tradition. A founder member of Blazin’ Fiddles, he has enjoyed a long career in traditional music. He has taught at UHI since 2019 where he developed the popular course 'Supernatural History of the Highlands and Islands,' exploring folklore, belief and the paranormal in Highland and Island communities.
