Woven through our approach, AccessArt has always championed the importance of sketchbooks and the activities that take place within them. Join Susan Coles and Mandy Barrett for this online session as they explore the integral role sketchbooks play in a rich and ambitious visual arts curriculum.

A sketchbook is a space for noticing, questioning, collecting, experimenting, drawing, reflecting, and imagining. It is where ideas begin, develop, change direction, and sometimes even fail before finding new possibilities.

In this session we’ll explore how artists and designers use sketchbooks as tools for enquiry and creative-thinking, and how children can use them in similarly meaningful ways. Through examples from classrooms and creative practice, we will consider how to nurture a sketchbook habit in your own setting that places process before product, values individual voice, and encourages learners to become curious, reflective, and resilient creative-thinkers.

You’ll leave with practical strategies and renewed confidence to embed sketchbooks in your setting, so that every learner can develop skills in creative enquiry throughout all Key Stages.
