At AccessArt, we believe every child deserves an ambitious visual arts education that develops a broad range of skills and is sustainable and enriching beyond the classroom. Not simply a subject that teaches technical skills, art and design is a way of exploring ideas, understanding different perspectives, and imagining new possibilities.

This session examines how we can create an ambitious curriculum model that extends beyond isolated projects to become a vehicle for creativity, inquiry, cultural understanding, and personal development. We will explore how art can connect with wider school values, contribute to cross-curricular learning, engage with communities, and draw upon local, national, and global cultural resources. Through practical examples, we will consider how to build a curriculum that is relevant, inclusive, outward-looking, and future-focused. We will show how an ambitious art curriculum equips young people not only to understand the world they inherit, but also to imagine and shape the world they wish to create.

By the end of the session, teachers and curriculum leaders will have a clearer understanding of what an ambitious visual arts curriculum can look like in practice. We will provide you with fresh ideas and practical approaches, meaning you can approach your curriculum planning with confidence, with creativity and critical thinking at its centre.
