About this event
Hello everyone!
Coming up in Term 1 is the Mon Repos Turtle Encounter on 15 February 2027, an exciting opportunity for Years 9-12 students ONLY.
Mon Repos Turtle Centre is special! It supports the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland and has the most significant loggerhead turtle nesting population in the South Pacific region. The success of nesting and hatching turtles at Mon Repos is critical for the survival of the endangered loggerhead turtle. At this site your child will learn all about these extraordinary animals and the conservation and research programs that are protecting them at the turtle centre, and even have a turtle encounter like very few others in the world.
As part of the booking process, parents will be required to provide essential student medical information to ensure their safety during the Mon Repos Turtle Encounter. Please complete medical booking form: Click here
Please note that because this is an exceptionally popular event, places are strictly limited in this educational school tour to only Year 9-12 students this year, who will be accompanied by assigned ACC Teachers and an official Tour Guide. Parents will need to drop off students at the Mon Repos Turtle Centre and will be notified via phone call or SMS when the tour ends, with pick-up times between 9:00 PM - Midnight, depending on the specific tour schedule. No parents are permitted to join the turtle tour.
*Parents are advised to carefully consider their child's independence and comfort with being away from them during this evening tour.
Important Information to be aware of:
- Students need to have a moderate level of fitness required for the tour.
- Be able to walk through sandy conditions for up to 1.6 km (return journey) at night in natural or limited light.
- Stand on uneven, sandy surfaces for approximately two hours.
- Traverse soft sandy surfaces, including short steep sandy sections on vegetated dunes and boardwalk ramps.
- Parents must be prepared to promptly collect their students immediately upon notification by ACC staff. Teachers will not remain at the location waiting for delayed pickups, and parents are responsible for retrieving their children as soon as they are contacted after the event concludes. Timely pickup is crucial to ensure student safety.
- ACC Teachers are only responsible for students during the event and not after its conclusion.
- There is no swimming or "water activity" permitted during the tour.
