“I Got Rhythm” - The Music of Gershwin and Redman

Fri Aug 7, 2026 7:00 PM - 8:15 PM EDT Historic Storer College Lawn, 25425

In partnership with the National Park Service, we celebrate America250 through the music of two American icons, Don Redman and George Gershwin. Our ACMF festival musicians collaborate with the Howard Burns Quartet for a fusion of jazz and strings, in the historic setting of Storer College Green, Harpers Ferry.

Born only two years apart, Don Redman and George Gershwin were two American musicians defining the sound of America in their time and for generations to come. Redman’s jazz version of Gershwin’s famous tune “I got rhythm” was the first jazz recording of this famous tune and highlights the familiarity each had with one another’s work.

In the historic setting of Storer College Green, we celebrate the evolution of the American sound through these two icons. This free community concert features a fusion of jazz and strings, highlighting the professional 'metamorphosis' of Gershwin’s famous tunes through Redman’s lens. It’s a rhythmic, soulful exploration of heritage and innovation under the Harpers Ferry sunset.

This is a free concert and will last approximately 50-75 minutes. Please reserve your space by securing a ticket.
