Sheffield-based Sam Carter is a BBC Folk Award-winning singer-songwriter and guitarist. His vivid contemporary songwriting draws on the traditions of English and American folksong, with distinctively English acoustic fingerstyle guitar playing at the heart of his sound.

In 2026, Sam toured Sam Carter Sings Nic Jones, a celebration of the music of the legendary English folk singer. Recorded live at Celtic Connections and released as an album, the record reached No. 8 in the Official UK Folk Album Chart. The project took Sam to packed festivals and venues across the UK, including a sold-out performance at Sidmouth Folk Festival attended by none other than Nic Jones himself. Following the Nic Jones project, Sam returns to his own songwriting with a new solo album planned for 2027, featuring new songs rooted in folk tradition and his deft fingerstyle guitar playing.

Sam has released seven albums under his own name and two with BBC Folk Award-nominated folk-rock band False Lights. His music has featured on BBC Radio 2, 3, 4 and 6 Music, and he has appeared on Later… with Jools Holland. He has performed at Cambridge Folk Festival, Glastonbury, the Barbican, the Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, as well as touring internationally in Belgium, Canada, France, Germany and the Netherlands.

Brackenfield Village Hall

Small, but beautifully formed! A gorgeous stone building in a quiet village, this is a seated, friendly, listening concert - we don't have a bar, but soft drinks will be available for purchase, and you're very welcome to bring your own alcohol (and take away the empties...). The venue is accessible, with parking along the roadside (please don't park on the village green - they're very proud of it!).
