Description

Why Should You Attend Flight Levels Systems Architecture?

Business Agility involves the entire organisation. However, most agile implementations focus on only team-level agility. Flight Levels take agility beyond the team beyond the portfolio and into strategy. Flight Levels Systems Architecture will help you:

  • Establish business agility beyond team boundaries
  • See how your organisation's strategy is progressing
  • Know why any piece of work is important to your organisation's strategy
  • Operationalise business strategy.
  • Effectively manage dependencies between teams and services/products
  • Know whether your organisation has the capacity to start a piece of work

What is Flight Levels?

Klaus Leopold author of “rethinking Agile” describes Flight Levels as a “thinking model” that can help you discover and highlight where in an organisation you need to focus on to achieve your desired objectives.

Flight Levels is not an organisational model or a maturity model. It is essentially a tool to help you think and communicate collaboratively at different levels of an organisation. The Flight Levels model represents the different levels or perspectives of an organisation as Flight Levels 1, 2 & 3.

Each Flight Level has a different focus:

  • At Flight Level 3 the focus is on strategy. At FL3, organisations prioritise initiatives according to the direction of the company and monitor how those initiatives are helping the organisation achieve its strategic objectives. This is where strategy turns into action.
  • At Flight Level 2 the focus is on coordination. FL2 systems allows is to break down the chosen initiatives into actionable pieces and to coordinate the work across multiple teams and services.
  • At Flight Level 1 the focus is on delivery. FL1 teams are involved in operational work, break down the work into smaller items and focus on delivering these items.
