Capacity Building Conference: What ‘Really’ Works for Black and Asian Organisations?
📅 Date: Thursday 5th December 2024
⏰ Time: 9:30am - 4:00pm
📍 Venue: Lift Islington, 45 White Lion Street London N1 9PW
About the Conference
For over 30 years, Action for Race Equality, Ubele, Voice4Change England, and Olmec have been empowering local civil society organisations through capacity building and organisational development.
For the first time, these national infrastructure organisations are coming together to host a pivotal conference. Together, we'll be re-examining current capacity-building models and explore innovative approaches to help our organisations not only survive but thrive.
Why now?
Funders, including governments, charitable trusts, foundations, and commissioners, increasingly recognise the need to strengthen the sustainability of Black and Asian-led organisations.
This conference delves into the heart of capacity building: What really works?
Join us to uncover actionable insights to support frontline service providers and community asset-based organisations in building resilience, scaling delivery, and fostering impactful leadership.
What you'll gain
- Good Practice: Learn from leading Black, Asian, and minority ethnic-led organisations and mainstream initiatives.
- Funders' Perspectives: Hear from charitable trusts, private sector funders, and public bodies.
- Future-Proofing Tools: Explore practical approaches, including AI, data management, and staff development.
Featuring Interactive Workshops:
Choose from four expert-led sessions such as the following:
- Creative Methodologies for Empowering Communities:
This workshop aims to showcase The Ubele Initiative’s creative methodologies for empowering communities by providing participants with a practical introduction to three innovative processes employed in their capacity-building programmes. - Tackling Time Constraints and Challenges:
This workshop will enable participants to input into what works to enable BME organisations to overcome time barriers and challenges to fully leverage capacity building opportunities. - Realigning Power Dynamics Between Funders and Grantees:
This workshop will explore how capacity building programmes are re-aligning power between funders and grantees and within organisations. This includes questions around co-design approaches, importance of lived experience, equitable distribution of support, flexibility, reflection, inclusiveness, and cultural competency. - Equity and Barriers in Funding Small and Grassroots Organisations:
This workshop will explore what capacity building good practice looks like for start-ups and organisations with under 100K turnover, less than 300K or struggling to make ends meet.
