Accents for Actors: General American with RADA–NYU Tisch Voice Coach and Royal Central Lecturer Sam Malone

Work on a contemporary American scene and build a convincing, consistent,  performance-ready General American accent with Sam Malone — Royal Central lecturer, audition panellist and past RADA–NYU Tisch tutor. Sam has also taught at Guildhall, Rose Bruford and the London College of Music, with students going on to major productions including Heartstopper, Masters of the Air, Hadestown, Six, Mean Girls, Mamma Mia, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and more. 

This focused two-hour workshop is designed for actors with beginner to intermediate experience in General American accent work. You will receive a contemporary American scene 24 - 48h in advance. There is no requirement to be off-book as accent work is the focus. 

During the workshop, Sam will help you:

• Identify and correct the sounds that commonly reveal a British accent, as well as other accents
• Strengthen the placement, rhythm, melody and inflection of General American
• Mark your script clearly so the accent is easier to prepare and repeat
• Maintain the accent while remaining connected to character
• Apply the accent confidently to a contemporary American scene
• Respond to individual notes and perform the scene again with greater accuracy and freedom
