This workshop is for actors who are serious about pursuing drama school training and want practical experience preparing for the audition process as well as looking for professional feedback before submitting auditions and self-tapes.

Join Sam Malone, and Polina Tyan for a four-hour practical workshop designed specifically for actors preparing for drama school auditions.

You’ve chosen your material. You’ve learnt the lines. But how do you know what’s actually working before you perform them in front of a drama school panel? This is a one day, two-part workshop that begins with a group workshop and leads into practice auditions. 

If you would like to do the workshop but only observe the practice auditions instead there is a ticket available.

ABOUT POLINA TYAN & SAM MALONE

Sam Malone is former RADA and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama coach. Sam has also been involved in final-round auditions at Royal Central, bringing first-hand knowledge of the drama-school audition environment to the workshop. His wider teaching and coaching experience includes Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Rose Bruford, Manchester Metropolitan University, London College of Music and Leeds Conservatoire.

Polina Tyan is the founder of Actorverse, a professional actor and acting coach, and an MA Acting graduate of ArtsEd, one of the UK’s leading drama schools. After successfully navigating the competitive drama-school audition process herself, she went on to build a professional screen career, with credits including Apple TV+’s Silo and feature films Fuze, Due Dating and Ghosted. She now coaches actors in scene study, screen acting and audition preparation, bringing together first-hand experience of drama-school training, professional auditions and working in the industry.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Session begins with a one-hour group workshop with Sam.

You’ll work through practical warm-ups and audition preparation, explore how to approach the day of the auditions and discuss the questions actors often have before drama school auditions. You will go through a series of exercises you can expect to see at the audition. 

Sam will cover areas such as:

• preparing yourself physically and vocally before you enter
• choosing and approaching classical and contemporary material
• dealing with nerves and pressure
• responding to redirection
• presenting yourself confidently without trying to second-guess the panel
• what the audition room can actually feel like

There will also be an opportunity to ask the questions you wish you could ask an audition panel before walking into one.

What happens when you walk into the room?
What is the panel noticing?
Are your speeches showing you at your best?
What happens if they redirect you?
And how do you stay truthful when you know you’re being assessed?

This is your chance to practice before the audition.

After the group workshop, every participant receives a 10 - 12 minute dedicated individual mock audition slot and feedback session with Sam.

Everyone stays in the room for the mock auditions.

You’ll watch Sam work with the other actors, hear the questions he asks, see how different materials are approached, and learn from the feedback and redirection given throughout the afternoon. Across the four hours, you’ll be actively learning through preparation, observation, practical audition experience and individual feedback — making the session much more than just your own 10-minute mock audition.
