PARENT TALK - Taking ADHD and Neurodivergent Kids on Holiday - Survival Tips
Share this event
With school holidays almost upon us, many parents are excited to take their kids away on holiday. Whether we're heading for sun, sand, and splashing round a pool somewhere warm, or have plans for adventure parks, camping, or a cool city visit, we can get the brochure version of family holidays in our minds. Lots of smiles, fun, laughter, relaxation, and time to connect.
With all kids, the reality can be somewhat different as travelling somewhere new always has its challenges. With neurodivergent kids, the gap between the ideal and the lived experience can be really stressful with long journeys, delays, disrupted routines, changes in environment, foods, and lack of access to home comforts.
There's still plenty of scope for fun and bonding but travelling with neurodivergent children often needs a different set of expectations from parents, some planning and preparation, and some strategies for getting through the tricky bits.
ADHD Scotland's Jill Dykes shares her survival tips from the best and worst of holiday experiences with her 2 AuDHD kids and offers parents some insight into the holiday experience from the point of view of neurodivergent children. All with the creation of those happy family memories in mind.
This talk will take place on Zoom. It will be around 30 minutes with time for questions and discussion throughout and afterwards.
