This two-day module runs on Saturday 27th February and Sunday 28th February from 10am - 4.30pm on both days.

Run by Roshmi Lovatt, Integrative Arts Psychotherapist (UKCP accredited), this session will help you understand and respect the impact of difference and diversity upon clients’ lives, and its implication for practice as DMP. This course will develop your own knowledge and understanding of this contemporary socio-political theme. This module can be taken by any DMP, but is a required module for those DMPs seeking UKCP accreditation.


Aims of the course

  • To gain an overview of contemporary theory on working with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds

  • To understand and respect the impact of difference and diversity upon clients’ lives, and its implication for practice as DMP

  • To use the theory as a critical tool to understand therapeutic issues, and to gain a deeper understanding of the value of DMP in working with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds

  • To apply in practice the language derived from dance, movement, and body-oriented theories in working with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds

  • To critically reflect on the application of the above knowledge and skills in attendees’ practice of DMP

  • To study psychotherapy from the perspective of different ways of understanding the therapeutic process with sensitivity towards diversity issues

  • To use this understanding as a critical tool to inform therapeutic interventions and to gain a deeper understanding of the value of DMP to working with the impact of difference and diversity


Learning Outcomes: Knowledge and Understanding

On completion of this module, attendees should have a knowledge and understanding of:

  • Contemporary theory on working with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds

  • An overview of the theoretical models that inform dance, movement, and body-oriented practice in working with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds

  • How to use both academic texts and research articles to develop knowledge and understanding of current theory on working with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds

  • The implications for psychotherapy of issues concerning diversity

  • How to develop own knowledge and understanding of this contemporary socio-political theme
