Cost: sliding scale ($175 - $325) - What is a sliding scale?

Adventures Without Limits' CampAbility Program invites individuals and families who experience disability, as well as Veterans, and first responders, into a welcoming and supportive camping environment so that we can share our love of the outdoors with communities who may face barriers to access.

In partnership with AmpSurf & RAPID, AWL will host up to 10 groups of individuals, families, friends for a weekend of camping in YURTS at South Beach State Park, August 16th - 18th, 2024. Our goal is to build community and offer an affordable overnight stay for people participating in AmpSurf's Adaptive Surfing Clinic at Nye Beach, 10 minutes North of the park. Each yurt sleeps up to 5 total (details below).

What to expect:

  • A fun weekend outdoors and camping in yurts at South Beach State Park! Campers are encouraged to register for AmpSurf's Adaptive Surf Clinic (second registration required - see HERE for options), enjoy the park independently, or check out local attractions in town - including the Hatfield Marine Science Center, Newport Aquarium, or other great restaurants!

What is included with registration:

  • The yurts at South Beach State Park are ADA accessible, and equipped with one futon, a bunk bed (with double on the bottom, twin bed on top), lights, electric heater, and 2 outlets. Accessible restrooms & showers are located in an outbuilding nearby. Yurts include vinyl mattresses, but participants will need to supply their own bedding. Camp supplies (sleeping bag, headlamp, etc.) may be reserved upon request.
  • Happy Hour type snacks Friday evening, simple breakfast Saturday & Sunday mornings, and a group dinner in camp Saturday evening.
  • NOTE: a secondary registration is required to participate in the AmpSurf Adaptive Surf Clinic (cost $25).

What's new this year?

  • The registration fee is offered on a sliding scale in an effort to reduce financial barriers to access, while also ensuring the long-term sustainability of this program. The sliding scale base (financial assistance needed) covers the cost of renting a yurt for 2 nights.
  • If the cost is a barrier to access, please email jennifer@awloutdoors.org and indicate if you would be willing to share a yurt with another camper(s) to make this trip affordable for more folks to attend. Each cabin sleeps up to 5, including 2 ground level full-sized beds, and 1 twin sized bunk bed. We may also have tent sites available for a reduced cost, though please note there is not an accessible restroom in close proximity to the group campsite.

Important Information:

  • All individuals participating must meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria.
  • Minors must be in attendance with a supervising adult.
  • Individuals/families must be able to meet onsite. If transportation is a barrier for you, there may be a shuttle to/from the Portland Metro Area for an additional fee, leaving Friday at 12 pm, and returning Sunday at 6 pm. Please email jennifer@awloutdoors.org to request transportation at the time of registering for the event.
  • Check-in Friday is anytime after 4:30 pm. Happy Hour snacks will be available Friday from 5:30 - 7:30 pm in the Yurt Meeting Hall. Please have a plan for your own dinner.
  • Check out Sunday by 12 noon. If you are participating in the surf clinic on Sunday, you will need to check out of the yurt and return your key before the surf clinic.
  • All participating campers must complete AWL's Digital Liability Waiver.
  • Simple camp breakfasts will be provided by AWL Saturday and Sunday, as well as a group meal Saturday evening. We may or may not be able to accommodate dietary preferences, so we encourage campers to bring snacks to supplement group meals throughout the weekend. If you have dietary restrictions please indicate them on your waiver.
  • You will notice that many of the yurts available are NOT pet friendly. Service animals are of course welcome, but non-service animal pets are only allowed in designated yurts. If you do bring a pet, please make sure they are friendly with other kids and dogs, stay on leash at all times, and have a plan for care for your pet while surfing or other activities that may not be safe or comfortable for your pet. Animals are not to be left in yurts unattended, and AWL staff will not be able to take responsibility for service animals or pets.

To register:

  • If you plan to bring anyone with you - family, friends, caregiver, etc. please indicate the total number of guests in your party (up to 5) and list the names and ages of all participants on your registration form.
  • If the event appears 'sold out' sign up for the waitlist, we will be opening additional spots as they become available!
  • Cancellations made less than 2 weeks before the event date (August 2nd) will be non-refundable if we cannot find someone else to take your spot. If you need to cancel, please reach out to the team at Adventures Without Limits ASAP (info@awloutdoors.org).
