Program Description:

Spend a night under the stars at the Oregon Coast, from the warmth and comfort of a yurt! Build community and share meals around the campfire, take a walk on the beach, and soak up the ocean air.

This trip is for Pacific University Students & Faculty and is hosted in partnership with Adventures Without Limits (AWL), a Forest Grove nonprofit dedicated to making outdoor recreation accessible for people of all abilities through adaptive equipment, expert guides, and inclusive programming.

Transportation, equipment, and instruction are provided. Wear comfortable clothing, bring secure footwear, and pack warm layers. Registration is required.

Itinerary:

Saturday, October 24th:

12:30 PM - Pickup @ Milky Way at Pacific University

2:00 PM - Stop at Cape Meares Lighthouse & Octopus Tree

3:00 PM - Depart Cape Meares

4:00 PM - Arrive at Nehalem Bay State Park - check into yurts

6:30 PM - Dinner

8:30 PM - Campfire & socialize

Sunday, October 25th:

9:00 AM - Breakfast & pack lunch

11:00 AM - Depart Nehalem Bay State Park

11:15 AM - Arrive at Short Sand Beach

1:00 PM - Depart Short Sand Beach

2:30 PM - Drop off at Pacific University


What is included with registration 

  • Transportation to and from Nehalem Bay State Park
  • The rustic yurts at Nehalem Bay State Park can sleep up to 5 people with a combination of bunk beds, futon couch or double bed, each with a vinyl mattress. Guests bring their own sleeping bag (can be borrowed from AWL upon request). Each yurt has locking door, electricity, heat and lights but cooking is not allowed in the yurt. You will be sharing a yurt with up to 4 Pacific University students/staff.
  • There are shared campground restrooms and showers.
  • Together we will cook dinner in camp on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday, and pack a lunch to go on Sunday. We may or may not be able to accommodate dietary preferences, so we encourage campers to bring snacks to supplement group meals throughout the weekend.

To register:

  1. Review AWL's Essential Eligibility Criteria and Cancellation Policies

  2. Register! - Click the red REGISTER HERE button to complete your registration. If you are registering with a friend and would like to be assigned the same yurt, please indicate in your registration.

  3. Look for a confirmation email ensuring that your registration is complete!

Participants will receive a registration email after they've completed the registration process. Liability Waivers and Gear Request Forms will be linked in the confirmation email. Participants MUST sign the electronic waiver and complete a gear request at least 7 days before the trip. If the participant signs the waiver or completes a gear request after this time frame, then we may not be able to accommodate any specific needs on the trip. If the participant fails to sign the waiver, they will not be permitted to join the trip.
